Access Statement For Crossways Guest House

Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our 2 bedroom bed and breakfast. The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeaver to help.

Pre-Arrival

• There is a bus stop 50 metres from the guest house and there is an hourly bus service (not Sundays) between Bishops Stortford / Stansted Airport / Saffron Walden.
• The main train station (Stansted Airport) is 15 minutes away by car.
• There is a local taxi service, we can make a booking for you.
• We have a basic website.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• On arrival to the guest house street parking is available immediately outside. We also have private parking to the rear. The surface is level, flat & gravel with a gravel path to the house.
• We can assist guests with light luggage.
• We are in the centre of Thaxted, only a few minutes walk to all facilities.

Main Entrance & Reception

• The front entrance has two steps, 16cm & 5cm high.
• The front door is always locked but we have an electric bell push in the entrance 130cm from floor level.
• The door is 90cm wide.
• There is seating provided in the hallway.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

• Corridors are well lit and have a good colour contrast.
• The covering on all corridors and stairs is short pile carpet.
• The breakfast room is on the ground floor.
• There is a "serpentine" staircase (semi-circular) to the first floor with a handrail on both sides.
• There are 13 stairs to the bedrooms, 18cm high, 23cm (average) deep, 80cm (average) wide.

Public Areas - WC

• Bedrooms are en-suite, one public WC available on ground floor (21cm high step)

Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Lounges, Take Away & Cafe

• BREAKFAST ROOM
• Breakfast is served in the ground floor breakfast room. There are no steps.
• The flooring is woven carpet.
• Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.
• Tables have underspace of 67cm high by 45cm wide. The chairs do not have arms.
• We do not play background music in any area of the B&B.

Bedrooms

• There are two bedrooms, both on the first floor. One double bedded, one twin bedded.
• Doors are 75cm wide.
• There is a 22cm step up to the twin bedroom
• At least 85cm routes within the bedroom e.g. to the sides of the beds, between beds and furniture, therefore allowing for left or right transfer to the beds.
• Beds are 55cm high.
• Television with remote control.
• Two upright chairs with arms are provided in each room.
• There is an ensuite bathroom to the double bedroom and an ensuite shower room to the twin bedroom (see below for details).
• Fitted short pile carpet to floors.
• DOUBLE BEDROOM ENSUITE BATHROOM
• Door width 58cm, inward opening.
• The bath edge is 54cm high.
• The bath has a shower attachment and a grab rail on opposite side to entry.
• The basin is round fronted and is 86cm high.
• The toilet has available free space of 30cm.
• The toilet is 40cm high.
• Good colour contrast of floors, walls, fittings & fixtures.
• TWIN BEDROOM ENSUITE SHOWER ROOM
• The ensuite is small and only suitable for entry by one person at a time.
• Door width 75cm opening outwards.
• There is a 14cm step down to toilet & shower.
• Shower cubicle is 75cm by 75cm with a 22cm high edge.
• Basin has a rounded front and is 80cm high.
• Toilet is 45 cm high.

Grounds and Gardens

• We have a large garden enclosed by old brick and flint walls which is available to sit in. Bench seats provided.

Additional Information

• Mobile phone reception depends on network.
• Wi-Fi Internet access.
• Evacuation is via the main staircase and front door, the door bell rings continuously if evacuation is required. Emergency lighting is installed on the staircase in the event of power failure. If you require assistance for evacuating please notify us on arrival e.g hearing impairment.
• We are strictly a NO SMOKING premises. Smoking is allowed in the garden.
